Hosted Exchange is a cloud based email alternative to on-premise hardware and infrastructure. Now that Small Business Server has been withdrawn from the market by Microsoft, it makes good economical sense to move your email infrastructure out into the cloud.
Hosted Exchange enables organisations of all sizes to utilise enterprise class messaging, mobility, collaboration and group scheduling features. Hosted Exchange give you the ability to pay by the seat, by the month and to only pay for the capacity you need.
Hosted exchange can be provided to New Zealand organisations by one of two basic methods.
1) Microsoft’s own Office 365 Exchange Online service; currently this service for New Zealand is hosted on cloud infrastructure Australia.
2) A local NZ based cloud service provider (OneNet), your important data is housed in New Zealand in a tier 1 data centre, with fully managed operations, daily backups and redundancies.
Each option has its pros and cons. The Microsoft service is cheaper, however your data is not located in New Zealand, downloading response times are slower and phone support can be
a nightmare “somewhat frustrating” at times. The NZ hosted option through OneNet is slightly more expensive, however there are no worries with data sovereignty, downloading response times or any telephone support that may be needed.
